The Hidden Addiction - Punjabi Sikh Women Speak Out
Gurvinder Gill explores why Punjabi Sikh women with drinking problems aren't always coming forward to get the help they need. The Shanti Project, a Midlands based engagement service which tries to encourage people with drinking problems to get support, says that women from a Punjabi Sikh background are more reluctant to seek help for their alcohol addiction compared to other South Asian groups. Gurvinder asks why some women from the same background as her are less likely to open up about their drinking issues, looks at what more can be done to tackle the problem affecting a small number of Punjabi Sikh women within the community and hears from those coming to terms with being an alcoholic.
