Should a Muslim scholar in Saudi Arabia be telling women what to wear?

Prominent Saudi cleric Mohammed Alarfy tweeted: Don't buy any abaya - that has any decorations. No embellishment, no slits, no openings... and don't wear makeup...' His advice has been retweeted more than 30,000 times on twitter and Muslim women in Saudi Arabia are challenging him sarcastically, posting pictures of themselves - asking the cleric if it's acceptable and asking him for his approval.
