Pictet prize: ‘Heat Map’ series of refugees wins

Winning photos taken using hi-tech military camera designed to detect body heat

A 'Heat Map' series of images by Irish photographer Richard Mosse has won the prestigious Pictet Prize.

Using a military-grade thermal radiation camera normally used by the army for suveillance and warfare, Mosse created extremely detailed black-and-white panoramas of refugee camps where people seem to glow "out of the frames".

The series documents two main refugee routes to Europe from the Persian Gulf to the Jungle camp in Calais.
