Counting Albatrosses from Space
Monitoring endangered albatrosses can be a dangerous and expensive business. The Northern Royal Albatross breeds on remote islands in the South Pacific, making them very hard to access. But now super high-resolution satellites mean conservationists like Dr Peter Fretwell from the British Antarctic Survey, can order up an image and count the little white dots that are the birds on their breeding colonies.
