Osborne: London Evening Standard Editor

The former chancellor is he new editor of the London Evening Standard

The former chancellor, George Osborne, has caused widespread surprise by being named as the paper's new editor. Mr Osborne has insisted he will be able to combine the role with being a member of parliament for Tatton in Cheshire and a city advisor at BlackRock, the investment management corporation.

Opposition MPs have said the appointment makes a mockery of media independence and have called for an immediate by-election.

Tim Montgomerie, columnist and founder of Conservative 91热爆, tells Nick Robinson that staying in parliament suggests he still has his sights on the "top job" in the Conservative party.

David Yelland, former editor of The Sun newspaper and Rohan Silva, former Downing Street adviser who worked closely with George Osborne from 2006 to 2013, discuss with Justin Webb if there is a conflict of interests within the role.
