The country's roads are crumbling, and councils don't have enough money to keep them in decent repair. That's the message from the Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance survey, or "ALARM". The survey is published each year by the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA), covering roads run by local Councils rather than the Major Trunk Roads and Motorways, which come under Highways England: The AIA say that unless things improve some local roads will just have to close. Northampton MP Michael Ellis says Government money is available.
