Tackling mental health in the Middle East
Following years of conflict, the Middle East has one of the highest rates of serious mental health problems, according to the World Health Organisation. Al Quds University in Jerusalem and a Palestinian non-profit organisation called Sunna Al Amal have collaborated to start a master’s degree in psychotherapy, to improve mental health training and provide badly needed care.
Hanan (not her real name), a patient at the Halkhal Community Center for Mental Health near Hebron, explains how the treatment provided by one of the master’s students – Hamza – has helped her.
