91Èȱ¬ Introducing Sessions at Maida Vale

Unsigned, emerging UK artists perform during the Introducing sessions at 91Èȱ¬ Maida Vale. Featuring Jodie Abacus from Lewisham, Betsy from Wales, Anoushka Lucas, and Wildwood Kin.

Huw Stephens is back this month bringing you the latest unsigned, undiscovered and under the radar musicians from the UK, who are emerging through 91Èȱ¬ Introducing. We head to 91Èȱ¬ Maida Vale Studios with 91Èȱ¬ Radio 2 for a night of live music. Top of the picks include artists Betsy, Jodie Abacus, Wildwood Kin and Anoushka Lucas.

We also feature live tracks from each of those musicians who were picked to perform for 91Èȱ¬ Radio 2 by Jo Whiley, Bob Harris and Jamie Cullum.

Jodie Abacus is a singer-songwriter from Lewisham. His musical styles include R&B, soul and funk and first uploaded to 91Èȱ¬ Introducing in London in the summer of 2015. One year later and he was picked to play the 91Èȱ¬ Introducing stage at Glastonbury.

Betsy was raised on her parents’ '70s record collection and inspired by local hero Shirley Bassey. She was a designer for the catwalk shows at Balenciaga in Paris but came back to Wales to focus on her music, which she uploaded it to 91Èȱ¬ Introducing in Wales.

Anoushka Lucas was born in London and has been singing since the age of 12. She said she was raised on a vintage diet of Jazz, Rock 'n' Roll and country and has lived in Oxford and Russia but sometimes sings in French.

Wildwood Kin are a three piece band from Exeter made up of two sisters and their cousin. They describe themselves as an ‘Indie/Americana blood harmony trio’, uploaded their music to 91Èȱ¬ Introducing in Devon two years ago and were shortlisted for the 91Èȱ¬2 Young Folk Award.
