Soosan Lolavar's new opera, set in a fictional borderland, features the real-life testimony of people detained at border control. The British-Iranian composer started work months before President Trump announced an executive order restricting travel from seven countries in the Middle East. She could never have predicted that the US premiere of her opera, due in April 2017, would prove this topical - or this personal.
