'The protectionist noises from the US are worrying'

Over the past five years central banks have played a critical role in stabilising markets, through their interest rates, by selling government bonds and introducing stimulus packages.

They may have to do more in the future, especially considering the impact of new economic policies in the US, Brexit and even the introduction of the Chinese yuan in the global trading system. All of these present particular challenges for emerging markets, including Africa.
