Are you celebrating Lohri today? It's the traditional Punjabi harvest festival celebrated to mark the end of Winter and the time to harvest sugarcane.

But over generations the festival has been used to celebrate the birth or marriage of a boy in the family.

It's meant to represent the growth of a family - a son marries, brings home a wife and has children...

But is this a gender biased celebration? Is it unfair to only celebrate the birth of a son implying you're not as happy if you have a daughter?

Callers Simran and Simran (not the same person!) told Nihal what Lohri means to them.
