What does this mean for disruption to the big festive getaway and return to work?

Julian Burnell, Network Rail:

"Most of it is to do with Cross Rail, obviously there's an awful lot of work going on there, which we can't do when the line is open.

"It's work checking before you travel to see what the alternatives are that are available for you. If you want to go to Reading you may find it quicker to go via Waterloo.

"We have learned from the problems that we had a couple of years ago...what we've got is a system by where we are checking the progress of the work as we go through this four or five day period."
