The rare snail who’s looking for a mate

A rare garden snail with an anticlockwise shell has been discovered in London. ‘Jeremy’ is known as a ‘lefty’ as his shell moves in the opposite direction to most snails. However, he is currently struggling to find a mate because he is only compatible with snails who share his ‘lefty-ness.’

Michael Ratsey, known as the ‘snail man’ told 5 live Drive that only “1 in 50,000” snails have anti-clockwise shells.

There is now a campaign underway to find Jeremy a compatible mate.

“If we get some milder, damp weather people will start looking around and who knows Jeremy might get a mate,” said Michael.
