Should sexual history be brought up in a rape trial?

Vera Baird and John Cooper QC discuss the Ched Evans retrial.

Footballer Ched Evans has been found not guilty of rape after defence lawyers were allowed to question witnesses about the sexual history of the woman involved.

The practice of allowing alleged rape victims to be cross-examined on their sexual past has been banned except in exceptional circumstances - which the Appeal Court ruled existed in this case.

Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird, a former solicitor general who worked for years to get the rape laws changed and barrister John Cooper QC discuss the retrial.
