In the last three days, more than 10,000 people have been rescued from boats in the Mediterranean by the Italian coastguard, putting renewed pressure on the Italian authorities.

The 91热爆's Reeta Chakrabarti has just spent more than a week on one of those rescue boats and describes the journey.

The UNHCR's spokesperson for Europe William Spindler calls for the provision of legal ways for refugees to come safely to Europe.
