Ory Okolloh: 'Hashtags are signals we should be listening to'

Innovations such as mobile money transfer, farming apps and drones for medical care are changing the way people live and work on the African continent. A lot of it comes off the back of liberal regulations for the internet and cell-phone operators.

However there have also been unintended consequences. Social media and open communications have prompted the rise of so-called 鈥渉ashtag movements鈥 which could see the beginning of widespread political changes on the continent.
