Innovations such as mobile money transfer, farming apps and drones for medical care are changing the way people live and work on the African continent. A lot of it comes off the back of liberal regulations for the internet and cell-phone operators.

However there have also been unintended consequences. Social media and open communications have prompted the rise of so-called 鈥渉ashtag movements鈥� which could see the beginning of widespread political changes on the continent.
