Obama鈥檚 battle against so-called Islamic State

Does the US lack leverage in Syria or does Obama not have the desire to intervene fully?

Exactly five years ago President Obama called on the Syrian President Bashir-Al-Assad to step down but today he is still in power. Syrian government warplanes have reportedly forced thousands of civilians to flee the city of Hassakeh in the north east of the country.

Karin Von Hippel is a former Senior State Department official dealing with US strategy against the so-called Islamic State and John Simpson is the 91热爆鈥檚 World Affairs editor.
