'I would never go back to Turkey'

Is Turkey's President Erdogan using the failed coup as excuse to suppress the opposition?

World leaders have warned Turkey's President Erdogan not to use the failed coup as an excuse to crush dissent in the country.

Some 6000 people have been arrested since Saturday morning and Mr Erdogan has suggested reintroducing the death penalty.

Zeynep Jane Kandur, of the President's Justice and Development Party, defended the government's response to the coup and Sevgi Akarcesme, former editor-in-chief of a newspaper taken over by the government in March, argued that it would give Erdogan "a pretext to consolidate his dictatorship".
