Defoe: Allardyce good enough to manage England

Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe says his manager Sam Allardyce has the ability to become the next England boss.

Allardyce, who was interviewed for the role in 2006, guided Sunderland to Premier League safety last season, in part thanks to Defoe's 15 goals.

When asked by Mark Chapman what skills his manager could bring to the role, 33-year-old Defoe said: "Last season he said to us, 'do you know what? I don't care how we play, as long as we win'."

"Obviously I hope he stays at Sunderland. Maybe he could do both (jobs)?"
