A US soldier sues Obama over the war against IS
It's not unusual for Americans to criticise the wars their country is fighting. But it is pretty unusual for an Army officer to speak out against the legality of the war in which he is actively serving. Army Capt. Nathan Michael Smith is doing just that. The 28-year-old officer filed a lawsuit against President Barack Obama himself, challenging the legal authorisation for the war against Islamic State. Bruce Ackerman is a professor of law and political science at Yale Law School and he鈥檚 an adviser to the legal team behind the suit. Ackerman argues that President Obama needs specific authorisation under the War Powers Resolution of 1973.
