Memories of the Battle of Jutland

At the age of sixteen Walter Browning volunteered for the navy. A year later, in May 1916, Leading Stoker Browning from Minsterworth was on HMS Colossus at the Battle of Jutland.

Today marks the centenary of the largest sea battle of World War One. Fought off the Danish coast at Jutland over 100,000 men and a 1,000 ships took part in the battle between the German High Seas fleet and the Royal Navy's Grand fleet.
