Waulking song: traditional
A group of women from the Western Isles of Scotland perform a Waulking Song while softening wool so it could be woven and made into clothes and blankets.
The wool would be banged off of a table, or ‘waulked’, in time to songs that take the form of question and answer type songs. One woman would sing the question and the rest of the group would sing the response.
Features the following concepts – question, answer, beat.
