Hillsborough survivor: 'Sun's front page a disgrace'

Hillsborough survivor Philip Goveas describes Sun's decision not to put the Hillsborough inquest verdict on its front page and "absolute joke and a disgrace"

A Hillsborough survivor has strongly criticised the Sun newspaper after the paper failed to feature the inquest verdict on its front page.

Philip Goveas was 31-years-old when he travelled to Hillsborough with his friend Gerard. They were in the Lepping lane end.

A jury concluded that the 96 victims of the disaster were unlawfully killed. It also cleared Liverpool fans of any responsibility for the disaster in 1989.

The Sun features no coverage of the verdict on its front page, but does have a double page spread inside, and an editorial in which it welcomes "justice at last" and offers an unreserved apology for the story it printed in the aftermath of the disaster in 1989.

When told of the double page spread Philip Goveas said "that's the best they can do for us? Well that's an absolute joke and a disgrace. I'm absolutely disgusted by that and to be honest it doesn't surprise me. Nothing surprises me about the Sun anymore".
