Can 'reverse-vending machines' save our beaches?

The Marine Conservation Society has said more than 8,000 bottles were picked up during its Great British Beach Clean Up in September, up 43% on 2014.

It wants deposit return schemes, which give money back to people who return empty bottles, to encourage recycling on beaches.

"It's been proven to work in countries already," said Lauren Eyles, Beachwatch officer at the Marine Conservation Society, "it will change peoples behavior because it provides the financial incentive".
