Syria five years on: Commemorating the lives lost
A montage of reports on the Syrian war commemorating 250,000 lives lost in five years of conflict.
It has been five years since the first protests against President Assad began; his brutal response led to a civil war that has killed more than 250,000 people and forced 11m out of their homes.
To mark the anniversary we have created a montage of reports in which every beat of the clock represents 1,000 people killed in the conflict: each minute, marked by a tolling bell, representing 50,000 lives lost.
