Legalizing cannabis - the business case

William chats to David Nutt & David Raynes about allowing the sale of cannabis to over 18

Every year, the illegal sale of cannabis puts billions of pounds into the pockets of organised criminals, and takes up vast amounts of police time and resources. Our current strategy also criminalises many people for using even small amounts of cannabis. A new report published today, from a panel of independent experts set up by the Liberal Democrats, proposes a different strategy: they want to legalise the sale of cannabis in licensed specialist shops -- and they say that could bring in a tax revenue of up to a billion pounds a year. Professor David Nutt is a member of the expert panel behind this report. He's also a former chairman of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. David Raynes is from the National Drug Prevention Alliance.
