14-year-old boy on police database for naked photos of himself

A 14-year old boy has his name on a police database for the crime of making and distributing indecent images of a child, because he sent a naked picture of himself to a girl in his year at school - even though he wasn't charged or cautioned for any offence.

"My son was very humiliated at the time, there are certain individuals in school that still taunt him today, it is something that he'll always be remembered for and I'm not happy with that," said his mother to the Today programme. Her words are spoken by one of our producers.

The police are drawing up new guidelines to stop so many children being criminalised and ending up being recorded on the police database. "Police guidelines need to be updated" said Alan Wardle Head of Policy at the NSPCC.
