Sir Michael Gambon says Jeremy Clarkson 鈥渄idn鈥檛 deserve鈥� to be dropped by the 91热爆, despite the former Top Gear presenter鈥檚 attack on a producer last year.

Speaking to Simon Mayo on the Kermode & Mayo Film Review while publicising his new film Dad鈥檚 Army, Sir Michael said he was not looking forward to the new version of Top Gear 鈥� now fronted by Chris Evans 鈥� due to his 鈥渓ove鈥� of Jeremy Clarkson. 鈥淎ll he did was punch someone in the mouth and that was it鈥�if the bloke you punched is still friendly after a week, you鈥檙e okay,鈥� said Sir Michael.

His Dad's Army co-star Toby Jones laughed at the remark. In response Simon Mayo said, 鈥淥n balance, you can鈥檛 really get away with that, though.鈥�

Jeremy Clarkson鈥檚 contract with the 91热爆 was not renewed after an 鈥渦nprovoked attack鈥� on a Top Gear producer in 2015.

The 91热爆鈥檚 director general Tony Hall confirmed the move in a statement saying he had not 鈥渢aken the decision lightly鈥� but that a line had been crossed:

鈥淭here cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another dictated by either rank, or public relations and commercial considerations."
