IS hostage: 'we had to believe we'd get out'
The French journalist Nicolas H茅nin who was taken hostage by the group that calls itself Islamic State, spoke to 5 live's Dan Walker and Sarah Brett about the 10 months he spent in captivity.
Speaking about how he shared a cell with other hostages including Britons, Alan Henning and David Haines, Henin said:
"We were all very close, we had be be fuelled with optimism during all our time in captivity. We were two dozen westerners held captive in a cell in Syria. We had to believe we would get out... More than 15 of us did get out".
Mr H茅nin admitted that "there is not a single day in my life that I don't think of them. I remember them every day".
Looking back on his time in captivity the journalist talked of their survival strategies "one was to make friends with your cell mates and it was because of that, that the news of their death was even more painful".
