Festive firs for animals at Banham Zoo
Giraffes, zebras, camels and primates at Banham Zoo will be getting their own Christmas trees this year.
The festive pines have been harvested from Knettishall Heath, as part of a heathland management scheme by Suffolk Wildlife Trust. The trust has been working to restore a lost Bronze Age landscape and to create a refuge for rare Breckland plants and animals.
It's been donating woody growth from shrubs and trees to the south Norfolk Zoo. Zoo spokesperson Gary Batters says conservation and animal welfare is at the heart of everything they do, so the relationship with the wildlife trust achieves both goals.
Some of the trees will be used to feed some of the animals.
