Somali Cultural Day
Your perception of Somalia might not be the most positive. We tend to see endless images and words about the long civil war, pirates, chaos and distress but an event in Leicester has been trying to overturn some of that negativity.
Jawahir Daahir, organiser of Leicester's first Somali Cultural Day, held on the St Matthews estate wanted it to showcase the best of Somali traditional food, song, dance and much more.
It was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Cllr Ted Cassidy, and fellow councillor, Manjula Sood told our reporter Kevin Ncube she would like the event to become a regular fixture on the city calendar.
