A campaign is being launched to try to get a review of the case of a Royal Marine jailed for life for killing a Taliban militant.

Sergeant Alexander Blackman shot dead the injured captive in Helmand Province in Afghanistan in September 2011.

"He shot a man he genuinely believed to be dead", said journalist Frederick Forsyth.

"He shouldn't have done it and he knows he shouldn't have done it."

Mr Forsyth claimed that at the end of Mr Blackman's trial, all seven members of the jury "put their caps on and saluted him."

"Honourable men do not salute a murderer", he added.
