No charge for parades
The PSNI will not charge for policing parades but will for other organisations. Fair ?
The PSNI say their rules require them to charge sporting and charity organisations for policing their events, but there will be no charges for parades. Even though we've seen some very significant public unrest around parades, which have cost the public purse millions of pounds in policing costs over the years. The Grand Orange Lodge say it's right that they should not be charged for policing around their parades because the European Convention on Human Rights recognises the right to freedom of peaceful assembly. In today's Irish New the SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly, who is a member of the policing board, has dismissed the police rule as a "pathetic policy" to gives a blank cheque to parade organisers. William Crawley spoke to UKIP's Henry Reilly and Dolores Kelly of the SDLP.
