New measures to take over failing schools will be put before MPs today, as part of a government plan to tackle under performance in England's schools.
In future, every local authority maintained school, rated as "inadequate" by Ofsted, will be turned into an academy, directly accountable to the Department for Education. The legal powers which allow councils, parents and governing bodies to appeal against or delay the decision will be removed.
Nicky Morgan, education secretary, told Today: "When you get into the territories of judicial reviews and appeals and legal processes; all that's doing is slowing down the opportunity to turn around a school.
