WTO: 'African economies need to attract investment'

Trade, not just in metals and minerals, but also in agricultural commodities, is a huge issue for Africa.

Access to markets, preferential trade deals, tariffs and trade barriers are constant discussion points among African governments and the rest of the world.

Overseeing much of this is the World Trade Organisation (WTO) which, apart from settling trade disputes, has the ultimate goal of fostering global trade by lowering tariffs.

The so-called Doha round of trade talks, which were launched 14 years ago, were meant to do that but have been stalled for well over a decade.

Africa would benefit greatly from the measures in the Doha round and 91热爆鈥檚 Lerato Mbele asked the Director General of the WTO, Roberto Azev锚do, why the talks have been stalled for so long.
