Waddle: Premier League teams should be limited to five foreign players

Former England international Chris Waddle says limits should be introduced with only five foreign players allowed in Premier League starting line-ups.

Waddle says not enough work is being done with home-grown young players.

"I think every team should only have five foreign players (in a starting eleven). There should be no more than five from each team on the pitch. It makes us go and work with younger players and we don't do that now.

"The Premier League has its own problems. There is talent out there, the problem is we're not patient enough as people want success tomorrow. You see a player who has played 30 times for a country abroad, he's on a Bosman, yes he wants a massive salary but it's a ready made player and we'll take him. We've stopped working with players.

"The big clubs have spent fortunes on academies. They've won this and that but how many (players) have got to the first team? None."
