A video that tackles the taboo in the Arab world of not using mothers’ names in public has gone viral in the past couple of days. Launched under the #MyMothersNameIs, the UN initiative has opened up a larger conversation about women’s rights and gender equality in the Middle East and beyond. The aim is to encourage people to publicly acknowledge their mothers’ names, and over time to shift public attitudes and end the taboo.

We’ll also hear a conversation about the fate of Dutee Chand. She’s the 19 year old Indian sprint champion who has today launched an appeal after being banned from international athletics for failing a gender test. The results had shown higher than permitted levels of testosterone in her body. Her case is unique as – unlike other female athletes in a similar situation – she has refused medical treatment such as hormone therapy.
