Boycott on England: ‘How can I say something praiseworthy?’
Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott says he couldn't find anything praisworthy to say after the side suffered a heavy eight wicket loss to New Zealand in their second Pool match at the Cricket World Cup.
England were bowled out for just 123 with the last seven wickets falling for just 19 runs and Black Caps bowler Tim Southee finished with figures of 7-33.
Brendon McCullum then smashed an 18-ball half century, the fastest in World Cup history, to lead New Zealand to their target in just 12.2 overs. That equalled the shortest ODI chase against England, in a match that lasted just 45.4 overs in total.
After the match, Boycott gave his frank assessment of the England performance, including his views on the captaincy of Eoin Morgan, who he believes has ‘to put his hand up and tell us how they can all get out for that on a good batting pitch.’
