Ian Poulter: No one wants to be American Ryder Cup captain

Ian Poulter has said that the American Ryder Cup captaincy is 鈥渘ot a role that many people want to put their hands up for鈥.

鈥淭hey haven鈥檛 had a lot of success over the last decade or so and that鈥檚 a difficult role,鈥 added the 39-year-old.

Davis Love III is rumoured to be reinstated as the American captain, despite leading the team in their infamous defeat to Europe at Medinah in 2012.

Speaking to Eleanor Oldroyd, Poulter said: 鈥淚t was very difficult for Davis at Medina, he basically had nearly 10 fingers holding that trophy on the Saturday and thankfully for Team Europe we managed to pull it out his hands. That must be very painful for him.鈥

"It鈥檚 not generally spoke about between the (American) players. We understand it was obviously painful and has been painful, they鈥檇 like to rectify that and get their hands on that trophy.鈥
