Tanni Grey-Thompson: 'Disabled people are just people'

Former paralymipian, Baroness Grey Thompson, said being disabled is only "a small part" of her life after two Super Bowl adverts were labelled patronising to disabled people.

Paralympian Amy Purdy ran, snowboarded and danced for Toyota, while Microsoft showed off how its technology helps a six-year-old boy with prosthetic legs; but the "inspirational" way they were portrayed started an online debate.

Tanni Grey-Thompson said disabled people are generally viewed as either "heroes, benefit scroungers or victims" as it is "easy to talk in a patronising tone".

She added that she "grew up in a middle-class house" and "never really faced adversity" when dealing with her disability at a young age.
