Copenhagen Attacks; Turkish Protests

How are people in Denmark coming to terms with the killings in Copenhagen this weekend? And, why Turkish women are protesting over the murder of a young student.

Denmark is in shock after the sudden eruption of violence in Copenhagen this weekend. Danes are debating free speech, security, immigration, and anti-semitism and trying to work out how a violent criminal turned into an extremist killer.

There are vigils and demonstrations taking place today in Copenhagen, and the story continues to get huge global attention, not least in other countries closely involved like Sweden and France.

Also, in Turkey women are continuing their protests today after the brutal murder (and alleged attempted rape) of a 20-year-old student on Saturday. Three suspects are now in pre-trial detention over the incident and thousands of activists and other women have taken to the streets and are protesting in schools and workplaces.

At the centre of the debate is Turkey鈥檚 high level of violence against women, and the alleged role of the president and his party in fomenting an atmosphere that encourages harassment.

We hear what the protesters want now, reflect the discussion over bringing back the death penalty and hear what it is like to be a woman in Turkey today.
