Renting a bedroom with a stranger might sound awkward but it seems more and more people, particularly in London with higher rent charges, are having to resort to doing just that.

One flat share site says it saw an almost 50 per cent increase last year in adverts placed by people looking to share either twin or triple bedrooms...and it claims that bedroom shares now account for just over 10% of the rental market.
