John Prescott: English vote formula a stitch-up

William Hague is expected to set out proposals for introducing "English votes for English laws".

There have been increased calls for English MPs to have greater power over matters that only apply in England.

Prime Minister David Cameron has promised to bring in changes saying this should be linked to the transfer of more powers to Holyrood in Scotland.

Labour is opposed to this idea, claiming it would create two classes of MPs.

The former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott told Today's John Humphrys: "This is a stitch-up trying to rush through an English formula."

He said Ed Miliband was right to have a commission on devolution and not rush legislation through.

First broadcast Today programme 16 December 2014.
