We are used to seeing professional footballers playing for their country. But after the outbreak of WWI in 1914, players died for their home nations too.

Former Grimsby club captain Sidney Wheelhouse (pictured, right) was one such footballer - he died aged just 28 during the 1916 Battle of the Somme.

His great-granddaughter, Diane Wilbourne-Kay, and her husband Dean made the emotional trip to his grave in Couin cemetery, France.

She told 5 live sport's Mike Ingham, who travelled with her, that Sidney's death was made "more real" by the visit.
