The Afghan rapper singing about violence against women
Paradise is a rapper from Afghanistan. She saw her cousin burn herself to death because her father wanted to make her marry an old man.
She says of her song: ‘some people like it and some of them don’t like it’.
Paradise says she has suffered from death threats via text, email and Facebook because she is singing with her fiancée and because she is a woman, and this makes her scared.
Paradise says that ‘women in Afgahanistan aren't perceived as human… men are strong, men understand everything’.
‘We have to try to destroy the roots of the cause but it may take 20,30, 40, maybe 50 years or more…but if thousands of women and men stand up, we are equal if we do everything together’.
