Macsen’s Story told by Katherine Jenkins

When three-year-old Macsen was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, epilepsy and severe sight impairment, his parents faced the prospect of never being able to communicate with their child. That was before they took him to the Bobath Therapy Centre in Cardiff.

A grant from 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need funds two incredible ‘Eye Gaze’ Computers and two members of staff who are trained in enabling children with cerebral palsy to learn to use them.

The technology tracks a child's pupil movements and converts them into a mouse cursor on a screen. Children can then synthesise speech, play games, paint pictures, operate a computer mouse and even access the Internet - opening up communication and play to children with restricted movement. Macsen currently likes to use the computer to throw virtual custard pies at his brother!
