Shabana Azmi the social activist
Regarded as one of the finest actresses in India, Shabana Azmi's performances have earned her praise and awards. She has appeared in both mainstream and independent cinema alongside her work in the theatre at home and abroad. Her work in the theatre saw Shabana Azmi on a tour of England over September and October, with her latest play Happy Birthday Sunita.
Not only is she known for her work in the cinema and theatre, she is also recognised for her humanitarian causes. She is a social and women's rights activist, a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, and a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament.
