Brazil's Divisive Election
We preview Brazil's razor-tight presidential elections, assess China's worsening economic progress, and look at what some see as the sorry state of expert forecasting.
On Sunday Brazilians will vote in the final round of the presidential election in Brazil, which the polls indicate are dividing down class lines and are too close to call. Also, we hear from Jim O Neill, the economist who coined the term BRIC to describe the world's leading emerging economies, Brazil, Russia India and China. He offers some calming words for market traders who have recently been spooked by China's worsening growth figures - the jitters have been overplayed, he says. And, we look at a fascinating study from the University of California in Berkeley, which has over the last four years been attempting a new study into political and economic forecasting. Terry Murray manages the Good Judgement Project, which attempts to improve predictions by exploiting the wisdom of crowds.
