Davies: Ben Flower should face year ban, not police
Former rugby league international Jonathan Davies has suggested a year long ban as punishment for Ben Flower after his sending off during the Super League Grand Final.
The Wigan prop was shown a red card for punching St Helens' Lance Hohaia twice.
Davies said the sanction should be severe to "make an example" of him, but said police involvement would "open up a can of worms".
"On a rugby field, people who haven't been involved... can't understand the emotion, controlling your emotion when you go onto the big stage."
"If this happened on the street, then he would be inside. But Ben wouldn't do this on the street... It's disgraceful but for me it should be held within the guidelines of rugby league."
