The current Derby County goalkeeping coach said "I watched him at 16 or 17 years old and the thing that struck me was he was calm, nothing bothered him. I'm sure his coach and manager Louis van Gaal have said to him - you've got to play a major part in our season, so he's taken on extra responsibility and credit to him."
